Welcome to Kōtuku Learning Hub.

We are a group of Year 3 & 4 learners here at Wigram Primary School.
In Kōtuku we have Rachael Hefferman, Marc Gibson and Tyla Skinner as the main teachers with Andrea Katsipis coming in on Fridays.
We also are lucky enough to have great Teacher Aides working with us including Jenny Snook, Nicole Grattan, Victoria Dunn, Petra Dellaca, Nina Tait-Blakemore and Jenny Greening for set periods throughout the day. They work with a variety of children supporting learning needs.
Our three learning spaces are situated between the hall and the staff room in the old Room 5 (the Launch), 6 (the Lab) and the Library (the Study). The Launch is where we meet as a group throughout the day. The Lab is where the children work collaboratively on individual or group tasks. The Create Space is a place where more messy learning can take place. The Study is where most precision teaching (small groups) takes place.

Learning Programmes
Learning starts from when the children arrive at school. They learning spaces are open from 8:30am and the children can settle into their first task of the day. This is normally by coming to say hello to the teachers.
We put a strong emphasis on the teaching of Reading, Writing and Maths. These are taught in small guided teaching groups mainly through the students ability. The children have an opportunity to make choices around their interests in these learning areas.

Throughout the year children will take part in Authentic Inquiries around their interests and a joint topic.
During the week we also have Uru Manuka (Digital Safety and Learning) and Kapahaka.
Use of Digital De
vices
In Kōtuku we are lucky enough to work on iPads (around 1 iPad between 2). The children use GAFE (Google Apps For Education), our class learning site and Explain Everything to name a few tools. The children take part in Uru Mānuka iPad programme which is part of Manaiakalani Outreach. This then builds on the children’s’ Digital Learning Skills and being SMART online.
Food at School
Children are encouraged to bring fruit to eat during the morning at any time they like. We have morning tea at 11 am and lunch at 12.30pm. We encourage children to bring water to drink at school.

Hats
We are a sun safe school and our students are required to wear their school hats throughout the duration of term 1 and term 4.
Homework Expectations
In Kōtuku all our literacy and numeracy learning is on our learning space site. Children and parents can access this at anytime to see what is being covered. We encourage children to go to the site at home and share their learning with their families. There is a range of carefully chosen ways to practise the skills the children are developing. Regular reading is encouraged.
Sport
We have a daily fitness programme including Jump Jam, motor skill development games and fun cooperative games. During Term 1 we focus on long distance running, working towards our annual Cross Country event.
During Term 2 and 3 we are lucky enough to have Kelly Sport coming in on Fridays to run a Skills Development programme. We follow the Sport Canterbury Programme. We use King’s Swimming School for a 2 week block of swimming lessons during the year. Term 4 has an athletics focus in preparation for our School Sports towards the end of the year.
